Just as with Democratic Senator Ron Wyden when he turned 65 earlier in 2014, Speaker John Boehner supposedly did not sign up for Medicare when he recently turned 65. Instead, the left's meme goe, Boehner stuck with Obamacare. But of course, the hypocrites that they are, the left used Wyden's birthday to celebrate "LBJ's great success" but used Boehner's birthday to lie about it. (Nancy Pelosi even said Boehner should be thankful for Social Security, apparently -- the multi multi millionairre that she is -- not realizing the real Americans can't get full SS until age 66.)
Boehner of course is doing the smart thing because Medicare is such terrible insurance.
- With Obamacare, for his $450 a month payroll deduction (supposedly 25% of the total cost), Boehner has a $1000 deductible and probably some kind of upper bound on how much he can spend for the whole year (called an annual out of pocket limit). With Obamacare he also has catastrophic coverage and almost certainly vision and self-administered prescription drug coverage. He also most most likely has coverage of an annual physical as well. And he only has to deal with one insurance company.
- On Medicare, depending on his choices, he would have to spend about the same amount per month but would not get the annual out of pocket spending limit or the catastrophic coverage or the vision or dental coverage or annual physical. On the other hand, depending on which private Medigap plan he bought, he probably would not have a deductible on those services that Medicare covers. On Medicare, he would most likely have to deal with three or four different insurance companies.
What is not clear from this is whether the $450 a month Obamacare insurance covers his wife (I don't even know if he is married). If it does then you would have to double all the earlier numbers further illustrating how bad Medicare is.
