I have written about this damnable web site called WebMD before and how bad it is for United States senior citizens. A recent blog entry or article or advertisement (unclear) just reinforces how bad this WebMD website is when it comes to Medicare. Despite what WebMD says, it has made many errors in general concerning Medicare and in particular in terms of how Medicare is affected by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) of 2010 as amended, better known as Obamacare. For example:
- There is no such thing as a "wellness exam" in Medicare pre or post PPACA. No examination takes place during a wellness visit. You will almost certainly not see a doctor unless he or she is running between examination rooms working with real patients.
- Tests for colon and breast cancer, high blood pressure and high chloresterol under Medicare long predate PPACA. Co-pays are now waived for a few of these tests (the least important) but so what? About 95% of us have some type of supplemental arrangement anyways.
- The donut hole only affects about 10% of the people on Medicare and only fully affects a few percent of us. It never affects a low income senior and seniors with middle and upper incomes can buy insurance or use state assistance plans.
