"When at first..." or however the saying about deception goes.
You won't find it anywhere in the left-wing mainstream media but MIT Professor Jonathan Gruber, one of many self-proclaimed architects of both Massachusetts' now effectively repealed RomneyCare and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) of 2010 as amended (better known as Obamacare), has really stepped in it now. The guy who claimed he was independent while getting paid $400,000 in 2009/2010 by Obama to lie about PPACA claimed on videotape last year that he and others lied to the Congressional Budget Office back in 2009/2010 about PPACA because voters1 were too stupid to know the truth.
Of course once the videotape came to light, he tried to claim that the quote was taken out of context.
"It would have made more sense to do Obamacare the way we did in Massachusetts, which would have been to just actually give people money to toss at the cost of their health insurance."
That is not the way it was done in Massachusetts under RomneyCare. No one in Massachusetts was given any money. The subsidization of health care insurance for about 2% of the population in Massachusetts between 2007 and 2013 worked basically the same way the subsidies work under PPACA... except that Massachusetts got the money from the Federal government to pay the insurance companies (see details on Massachusetts' Medicaid waiver here) and the Federal government had no choice but to get the money for its version of RomneyCare from the Medicare Trust funds and taxes... hence the lying
1Unsure if he meant the Democratic Congresspeople about to vote on PPACA or all of us
