According to the Barnstable Patriot, Massachusetts Democrats are already moving on from their recent price fixing legislation to their ultimate objective, single-payer healthcare insurance in Massachusetts. Benjamin Day, executive director of Mass Care, will speak on the Democratic and Republican plans for Medicare Sept. 19 in front of the Falmouth Democratic Committee.
I have no philosophical objection to single payer (I'm on Medicare after all) but what Mass Care has proposed looks like it would increase Massachusetts income and sales taxes from 5%-6% (I lose track of the Deval Patrick tax increases) to close to 20%. I don't think that is politically feasible.
And why would the Democrats have this guy explain Medicare, which has nothing to do with Mass Care (unless you really want to see a riot among Massachusets seniors).
