The poliical left wing in the United States can stop worrying about the Tea Party movement. According to the Hill political newspaper, the Tea Party has followed Google (GOOG), Verizon (VZW) and a host of other information technology (IT) companies down the "net neutrality" rat hole.
Although I have no idea why it would even care, for the record the "Tea Party" (there really is no Tea Party for those of you reading this from outside the U.S.) is against net neutrality.
Google and Verizon are for it only when it's wired. As far as I can tell, unless those Microsoft (MSFT) data-center-in-a-trailer containers have a big Netgear box on the top, the Internet is always wired somewhere along "the line." (Actually I know that is not the case because Microsoft CTO Craig Mundie explained how the shipping containers work at a recent Microsoft financial analyst presentation. My earlier comparison with General Powell's description of Saddam Hussein's missles of mass destruction moving around Iraq on flat bed trailers is no longer operative; General Powell's description is of course also no longer operative.)
Apparently the Tea Party is against net neutrality because George Soros is for it. But net neutrality is going to be one of those issues like open source software and "you never get fired for choosing IBM" that technology people argue about incessantly and which only get settled when they no longer matter.
