Did Timothy Geithner, President Obama’s nominee to be U.S. Secretary of the Treasury and therefore boss of the Internal Revenue Service, cheat on his tax returns between 2001-2005?
Or was he simply unable to use a pretty simple piece of consumer software called Intuit (INTU) TurboTax?
Based on the incomplete online record available on the Senate Finance Committee web site, it looks like the answer is yes to one of those two questions. I could not tell from the replay of the Senate committee confirmation hearing whether he received a W-2 or 1099 or both from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), where he worked during those years. But even if he simply unintentionally mistakenly carelessly used the very user-friendly TurboTax, he does not deserve to be U.S. Treasury Secretary.
There is more to this story than we’ve heard so far.
